THE MALE GAZE DETOX
How much of your life have you been organizing around being chosen?
Five rituals to find out — and find your way back.
Ritual 2
Somatic Awareness
Yesterday you started to see it.

Today you're going to feel it.

The male gaze doesn't just live out there — in culture, in cinema, in the way men have talked about women your whole life. It got inside. It became a survival response. Wired into your nervous system. Into your ancestors' nervous systems before you.

It lives in the way your shoulders shift when you walk into a room. The way your stomach tightens. The way you lift your chest, check your reflection, scan to see who's watching — and adjust.

Most of us have been doing this so long it feels like breathing. Automatic. Invisible.

Today we're going to bring awareness to how it lives in you.

Find somewhere quiet. Give yourself a few uninterrupted minutes.

Journaling Questions:
Light a candle and set aside time to free write. Set a timer for 7-10 minutes for each question. Let whatever wants to surface come through.

Where in your body did you feel the most tension or constriction during the meditation? What does that place want you to know?

2. When you imagined men entering the room — what shifted in sensations, emotions, and thoughts? What did your body do automatically?
3. What did you notice in your body when you imagined not being witnessed — what shifted in sensations, emotions, and thoughts?
4. Think back to when you first learned to hold yourself this way. How old were you? What were you learning about safety?
5. How much energy do you spend each day monitoring, adjusting, and curating yourself for the internalized gaze? What does that cost you?
6. What would it feel like to walk into a room and let your body just… be? No adjusting. No scanning. No performing. Can you imagine it?

Take some time to let this all land. Lookout for the next ritual in your inbox in a couple of days.
